The Main Temple at Rahob, seen here at left, is always active. Intense religious practice, large ceremonies, and many important festivals take place in and around the main temple. The villagers barter goods to repair the building and the clergy work to maintain it. Funds for a new roof donated by Rahob Foundation, have helped to preserve many old texts, thankas, wall frescos and large statues housed in the Main Temple building. The building has five pitched roofs of various sizes, making this project complicated but necessary.

Ongoing Developments

The Drinking Water Project, successfully constructed in 1999, is bringing water to six locations within the monastic village for all of the 2000 inhabitants. This clean water from a natural spring at 13,000 feet is piped around the mountains over seven miles of steep terrain.

The Nunnery. Launched in the summer of 1999, this project created much excitement when a three room home for two nuns at the Rahob Ashram was completed around the corner from the main monastery grounds. The many nuns awaiting to return to their monastery at Rahob are working to gain support from their friends and families to help us with more construction during the summer of 2003.

The Philosophy School is dedicated to keeping the traditional teachings alive. Young monks and nuns await the chance to be selected to attend Rahob Philosophy School. It took three years to construct the building and develop the curriculum based on the traditional teachings of the 800 year old Rahob Monastery. Rahob Tulku, Thupten Kalsang Rinpoche, selected the main teachers and the Project gives financial support for the teachers and the thirty-one students, providing funds for books and basic needs.

The Greenhouse Project. The Rahob Woman's Council assures us that the plans for a greenhouse will be met with a large group of supporters and volunteers to help with the physical work. The council is working on selecting an area and engineer and friend of Rahob Bernd Zabel has a designed a greenhouse based on the trial greenhouse constructed during his previous month-long stay at Rahob.
